Where can my horse stay while we are in Whitefish?

What are the divisions for Whitefish Ski-Joring and how do I know what division to enter?
See the Whitefish Winter Carnival Rules (link to here) for further information. All contestants must be 18 years of age by 1/1/11.
a. OPEN division will consist of any competitors, men or women. (usually the most experienced)
b. SPORT division will consist of any competitors, men or women who have not won 1st place in Whitefish in this division.
c. NOVICE division will consist of any competitors, men or women who are new to the sport and/or have not won in any division.

How many times can I enter the event?
This is dependent if you’re a rider or skier. Please see rules for complete details for this answer.

What are the rules for Whitefish Skijoring?

How much does it cost to enter each division?
The cost is per team that is entering. The cost is $50.00 for the Novice division, $100.00 for the Sport division, and $150.00 for the Open division. Please note any person who is competing in the Open or Sport division must be current members of the North American Ski Joring Association (NASJA). Please see the NASJA website for current membership costs. The fee can be paid at registration.

How can I find a team to participate with for the skijoring event?

What can I possibly win at the Whitefish Winter Carnival Ski Joring event for 2011?
There are cash and prizes given for each division. The amount of cash varies by division. Prizes will be given for 1st-3rd place. There is cash given for winners for best time on Saturday, best time on Sunday and best two day combined. Prizes are given to best-two day combined time. Cash amounts are still to be determined based on sponsorships and number of contestants.

Where can I see the race results?
The results for the race will be available at the Great Northern Bar after the event each day. Final results will be posted on the website a few days after the event.

I see on the schedule for Saturday night there is a Calcutta at the Great Northern Bar. What is a Calcutta?
The Calcutta is a chance to bid on teams and how you think they will do during Sunday’s event. You can buy a team by being the top bidder for the team, and you are the winner if your team gets the fastest time on Sunday times only!! All money raised in the Calcutta is shared with the Whitefish Winter Carnival Ski Joring and the highest bidder for the teams. Money is awarded for the top 3 teams in each division, Open, Sport and Novice.

Can I practice before the event?
Yes, feel free to practice anytime at home…get yourself and your horse in shape! During the month of January, there will be a practice course set up at Scott Ping’s house in Whitefish. Please watch for the Whitefish Pilot for upcoming dates or contact Scott Ping at 406.261-7464 for available dates. Please note: A liability release form must be signed before using the practice course.

What will the course look like at the Whitefish Winter Carnival Ski-joring event?
The course in Whitefish is a U-shaped course. The horse and rider go on the inside of the U shape while the skier goes on the outside thru gates and over jumps. See course map posted on this website.

Where is the event held in Whitefish?
The skijoring race is held at the Whitefish Airport. This is located off of east 2nd street in Whitefish. See map.

All other parts of the event will be held at the Great Northern Bar in downtown Whitefish. See the schedule of events for times and locations.

Where do I park for the event?
Competitors park off of 2nd St. East in Whitefish. Please follow the signs to the competitor parking lot. There is a special lot for trucks with trailers and another place for skiers to park. Please follow the signs and the instructions from the parking attendants. Parking is very limited, so we need to use our space wisely to fit everyone in.

Spectators park off of Armory Road in Whitefish. Please follow the signs for spectator parking. Please do not try and park in the contestant parking. There is no charge for the event, but there is a $5.00 parking fee per vehicle. (Note: The parking fee is split between the Whitefish Winter Carnival, Whitefish Ski Joring and Human Therapy on Horseback). IF you walk over, then it is free to enter the event!

How much does it cost to come and watch ski-joring?
There is no cost to watch ski-joring, but there is a $5.00 parking charge per vehicle. So, walk on over and get in free!!
